BÒN ITALIA TRATTORIA & CAFFÈ on Sheppard Ave E serves up a relaxed yet thoughtfully curated Italian dining experience that lands somewhere between a casual café and a full-service restaurant. It’s the kind of spot where you can settle in for a leisurely lunch or early dinner, whether you’re meeting friends for a chat over coffee or craving classic Italian plates in a modern setting.

The atmosphere is warm and inviting without feeling overly formal — a balance that appeals to both locals looking for a laid-back spot and those wanting a bit of a refined café vibe. Soft lighting and clean, contemporary décor create an environment suited to everything from casual coffee dates to small group dinners. The place naturally draws a mixed crowd: people stopping by for espresso and pastries, couples enjoying an antipasto platter with wine, and groups sharing pasta and panini as part of a relaxed meal.

The menu covers a thoughtful range, spanning from hearty pastas like Pasta alla Bolognese and Lasagna Casarecce to lighter choices such as Caprese Croissant and an antipasto platter ideal for sharing. Coffee lovers will appreciate the espresso drinks alongside some Italian-inspired sweets — cannolis, chocolate brigadeiros, and even pastel de nata make for tempting, well-crafted treats. The café side of things also leaned into quality offerings like matcha and hojicha lattes, making it a comfortable place for a mid-afternoon pause.

Service here tends to be attentive and friendly, adding to a sense of ease without feeling rushed. While the staff are polite and helpful, some visitors have noted a desire for a slightly warmer welcome, suggesting the place still maintains a calm, unpretentious pace rather than a buzzing, energetic one.

For timing, midweek afternoons and early evenings appear well suited. It’s not a noisy spot, so if you’re after a relaxed environment for catching up or quietly enjoying your meal, it fits that bill. Menu choices cater well to vegetarians and meat-eaters, and the blend of café and restaurant allows for flexible dining modes — from a quick espresso and cookie to a more composed multi-course dinner.

Overall, BÒN ITALIA TRATTORIA & CAFFÈ appeals to locals in North York who appreciate unhurried Italian cooking paired with good coffee in a modern, comfortable setting. It’s a place to unwind, share familiar flavors, and enjoy straightforward, thoughtful hospitality without pretense.

This is a great spot for a relaxed coffee chat. We ordered an Americano, hojicha latte, the meat lover panino, and an orange marmalade & walnut cookie — everything was delicious and well made. The environment is warm and inviting, and the service was genuinely friendly. A lovely place to unwind, and we’ll definitely come back.

Heyyy! Let me give a great shout out to these both attentive ladies (LENIZE & MARIA) truly, listening is everything. Gotta say, their dessert selections and coffee taste could improve and hopefully it would. But the service is really good especially with these two ladies, great communication and very kind. Just positive vibes. Highly recommended for the service.

First visit with friends- it had been on my radar for a while. Difficult to choose from their extensive menu. They have many vegetarian options as well. We started with prosciutto/cheese on bread, and a bottle of Pinot Grigio, which was amazing. I decided to go for the lasagna, which was excellent. One friend had pasta and the other had a salad and was able to add chicken to it. We shared a piece of tiramisu for dessert. The cappuccino was excellent too. The restaurant isn’t large, and I would recommend a reservation since it was packed! It has a casual atmosphere, high ceilings and is on the loud side, the atmosphere improved when the lights were dimmed. Our server, David, was very friendly and accommodating. Since it is in the bottom of a condo building, I would recommend parking at Bayview Village and walking over. I’d like to return to try some of the other items.

This is a beautiful trattoria and café, a Toronto gem in a casual modern setting. The service is excellent, and the freshly prepared food is absolutely delicious. So good! The Espresso and Cappuccino are perfect. Prices are reasonable, and the brunch menu is superb! We had Salmone Alla Piastra and Buongiorno Burrata. We love this place, and are so happy to have this wonderful eatery nearby!

My friends and I went to Bon Italia for dinner. The decoration and atmosphere were nice, with good lighting design. The staff were polite, though I would prefer a bit more smile and a warmer welcome. We went there for lasagna, but unfortunately, although they mentioned having lasagna with veal and also with pork, that Sunday night they only had the one with pork. So instead, we ordered a panini, Alfredo pasta, and a Roman Feast pizza. The flavor, quality, and taste of all dishes were good. For the pizza, they served it with a kind of funny scissor. It wasn’t very sharp, so it was a bit hard to slice the pizza, but it was a really funny and interesting experience. Finding a parking spot was quite challenging. We had to use the back street of the building, park in the visitor’s parking area, and then find our way through the building to reach the restaurant. They also have a small café area with some pastries. The prices were quite reasonable. Overall, it was a nice experience. Also, When I asked for a container to take my leftover dish, they gave me an insulated bag for warm food, which was a very nice gesture and I really appreciated it.

The food is so good but the service is so bad. I got the frozen burrata salad and still dream about it. However we asked for water when we sat down and never ended up getting it. The servers take forever to do anything, getting you menus, questions, the bill will all take ages if you're lucky enough to be acknowledged. Still worth it if you're not in a rush.

Back for a 2nd time, food just as delicious and fresh as the first time. It was nice to enjoy their reasonably priced lunch menu, we enjoyed the Sicilian (one with turkey and no eggplant) and the Turkey with provolone and jelly. My daughter ordered bow tie pesto pasta di burrata - out of this world fresh and delish! We ordered bruschetta and heated olives/crostini and the maple pecan salad, the dressing was a bit on the sweet side if you don't mind, we found it scrumptious. Desserts were great, cannoli with pistachio filling, chocolate eclair (we think coffee would be better), tiramisu was ok, and best of all of them however was the nutella filled croissant with fresh strawberries, heaven! Happy to go again, and again, and again :-)
